About me

I have been practicing yoga since 2014. I completed my 200 hour Teacher training in May of 2017. I studied Integrated Vinyasa™ through The Colorado School of Yoga, an incredible school that I cannot speak highly enough of. I had the honor of studying under Tracey Garcia of Colorado Springs, CO and Gina Caputo of Boulder, CO. Some of our guest teachers were the incredible Kathryn Budig of Aim True and Shiva Rea, an innovator in the evolution of Vinyasa Yoga. “Vinyasa” means to place intentionally and I believe a commitment to intentionality in both my teaching and living my life will lead to a life lived to the highest degree, on and off the mat. When you join me in class you will experience that all aspects of our practice and asanas are well-thought-out and are there for a reason!

I have been a loyal student of David Corder of Peyton, CO and joined him on a yoga retreat to Blue Osa in Costa Rica. If you would like to join me in class, I offer an Integrated Vinyasa class at 8am on Sunday mornings at Perfect Fit Wellness Center in Peyton, Colorado and a 5.30pm Integrated Vinyasa class at King's Deer Golf Club on Wednesday nights. Thank you so much for your continued support.

Namaste,

Karin

Corporate Yoga Classes

Corporate Yoga classes are a great way to improve workplace morale, increase productivity and bring everyone together to do something fun as a group. Yoga can be a welcome break to a busy work day or a relaxing way to de-stress at the end of the day. Affordable programs like yoga promote well-being in the workplace and provide tools for employees to combat stress. Initial costs of such a program are offset as they are found to statistically reduce employee turnover, promote employee alertness, increase productivity, and improve overall health.

I guarantee that each and every yoga class with me will leave you and your co-workers refreshed, re-energized and ready to deal with workplace stress. I recommend practicing yoga at least twice a week, but even once a week will have noticeable results.

“Though the yogi does not underrate his body, he does not think merely of its perfection but of his senses, mind, intellect and soul. The yogi conquers the body by practice of asanas and make it a fit vehicle for the spirit. A soul without a body is like a bird deprived of its power to fly.”

Giving back to my community by sharing yoga with others

I am very excited to start my training with Yoga for First Responders (YFFR) this fall in Des Moines, Iowa. Yoga for First Responders has a mission of bringing yoga philosophy, through somatic and cognitive exercises, to practical applications for first responders around the country. I have been a firefighter's wife now for as long as I have been a wife; 18 years. I see and have experienced first hand the stresses, physical and emotional health problems that go hand-in-hand with the first responder profession. I know that all of these issues come home every morning with first responders and are dropped right in the middle of the family dynamic. These things are not easily dealt with. I had been practicing yoga for a year or so before I was able to convince my firefighter to come with me. Skeptical at first, it only took weeks for him to see that yoga was having a positive affect on him, not only in his psychical fitness level but more so in the way he was able to take a step back, breathe and handle stressful situations at work. When I found YFFR I was over the moon and knew immediately that I had to be a part of their training intensive.

In one segment emergency personnel may witness more trauma, loss, death and destruction than the average citizen will see in a lifetime. It is estimated that 25 to 30 percent of firefighters and police officers have stressbased physical health problems and 40 percent suffer from sleep disorders. Numbers are rising for Post Traumatic Stress among all emergency personnel; 18 percent in police officers, 10 to 37 percent in fire service.

Yoga for First Responders provides vital emotional wellness and mental-resiliency training in academy settings, inservice trainings, and community-based programs. When I complete my training I will be offering complimentary monthly classes to First Responders. Being a spouse or family member of a first responder comes with a different set of issues, from stress, to feelings of being overwhelmed, from the "not-knowing" to the "not-wanting-to-know". I know from first hand experience that yoga can help you deal with these issues and better prepare you for the stresses of being married to a first responder, therefor I will also be offering complimentary classes to first responder's spouses and family members.

Yoga Mats

I think I "dated" 4 or 5 mats in my yoga career until I found "The One". I use the JadeYoga Fusion XW. This is what JadeYoga says about the Fusion XW: "Wanting all of the cushiony glory of the Fusion mat along with a little extra room to stretch out? Look no further, FUSION XW is here for you, featuring everything you love about our Fusion mat alongside an extra 4” of space, so go ahead- sprawl out and enjoy!" As the saying goes: "There is a yoga teacher for everyone." I believe the same applies to yoga mats, you might have to pick and choose for a while until you find the right mat for you. I love my JadeYoga mat so much, I encourage you try it, however it might not work for you, below are other yoga mats by companies that I recommend. And remember there are many community causes out there that would love to receive your mat when you are done using it or are ready to move on to a different brand. These companies have been very generous in donating yoga mats and are helping me being able to bring yoga classes to First Responders and their family members, "Thank you!"

Run by a former lawyer for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, there is no question that making eco-friendly yoga products is JadeYoga's number one priority.  Lucky for us yogi's and yogini's, made right, natural rubber is both the most eco-friendly and best performing yoga mat you can get.

JadeYoga is committed to giving back to the earth with every product sold. JadeYoga wants to leave the earth a better place than when they found it. As Jade mats come from trees, they decided to give back by planting a tree for every mat sold. And since 2006, through a partnership with Trees for the Future, they have done just that, planting over One Million trees so far.

Through the “Community Partners” program JadeYoga tries to help out many very special people and organizations trying to bring yoga to those who might benefit from it, but might not otherwise have a chance to try - from schools to prisons and from hospitals to shelters.   Perhaps for a single mat for a raffle or auction or for a dozen mats to bring a class to a group in need, JadeYoga encourages everyone to think about what more they might do.
